Today is officially the first day of Autumn. The leaves are turning golden brown, the days are getting shorter, and there’s a noticeable chill in the air. There are also a whole lot of pumpkins around suddenly, and you’ll find the motherload at Krewelshof.
A mix of farm, shop and kids play area, Krewelshof is situated in Lohmar, a 20-minute drive from Cologne. The first thing you’ll see when you arrive is a humongous pumpkin pyramid. Then you’ll see the prize winning gigantic pumpkins, each one bigger than the next. Then you’ll be enticed by the café where you won’t be able to resist the delicious cakes and seasonal dishes.
Family fun inside and out
If you’ve got kids you’ll have to visit the play area. It’ll cost you €5 per child and €3.50 for adults to get in, but it’s well worth it if you have children aged up to ten years old – teenies will fain boredom but secretly enjoy it. In bad weather there’s a huge inflatable indoor slide, games and a kid’s café.
When it’s dry, there’s loads to do outside, with a playground, bobby-car race-track, donkeys to feed, a sledge run and a huge corn labyrinth. You can also see the farm’s herd of goats being milked and feed rabbits and guinea pigs.
Last but not least, there’s the farm shop selling all kinds of delicious farm produce: from cheese and sausages, to wine, apple juice, jam and much more. You’ll be weighed down with pumpkins and produce by the time you leave.
