In a town with an exhibition centre the size of Cologne’s, it’s not surprising that fairs tend to spread across the river and into town. Consider the latest GamesCon trade fair that took place recently, parties and events closed the ring entirely and thousands of visitors descended on the city. Photokino (20-25 September 2016) isn’t quite on that scale, but its influence will definitely be felt thoughout the city and that’s partly because of the accompanying Photoszene Festival that runs throughout September.
The Photoszene Festival takes place at galleries and exhibition venues around Cologne. “The State I am In” is a series of exhibitions at the heart of this year’s festival. It takes place in two of Cologne’s urban areas: Cologne’s South City (Michael-Horbach-Stiftung), and Cologne’s New Town. There will also be an accompanying series of films at the Filmforum at Museum Ludwig, a Portfolio Review at the Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur, as well as the Photobook-Quartet at the Museum of Applied Arts.
