The newest Christmas market in town is also the smallest and it’s raising money for good causes. Visit the Südstadt to check it out.
Just past the Volksgarten and nestled beside the Luther Kirche, Der Kleinste Weinachstmarkt Köln (the smallest Christmas market in Cologne) has the motto “Glühwein saufen für den guten Zweck” – drink Glüwein for a good cause.
It may only have seven huts but it boasts a great atmosphere. The Luther Kirche’s courtyard has been decorated with twinkling lights and the traders change on a weekly basis so you’ll find different things on sale every week.
A highlight is the small stage program which will feature big local bands like Querbeat, Kasalla, Miljö, Kuhl and Gäng, Max Biermann, Stefan Knittler, Pläsier, La Mäng, Cat Ballou and more. They’ve agreed to perform live for a good cause for half hour slots between 5 and 8 PM.
On Saturday afternoon there’s a kids program with ‘The Cologne Clowns’ and on other days there are crafts, readings and singing.
A Tuk-Tuk-Shuttle runs on Monday to Friday from 5PM and Saturday and Sunday from 3PM, between the “Zum Pitter” stop, near Chlodwigplatz, and “Lutherkirche”. Payments are on a donation basis.
All proceeds from the Christmas market go to social projects such as the “Team Bananenflank” – a Cologne football project for handicapped and socially disadvantaged children and young people – as well as the refugee work carried out by the Lutherkirche.
